The Calcutta Anglo Gujarati College, Kolkata, is committed to fostering a safe and respectful campus environment. In strict compliance with Supreme Court directives, UGC regulations, and state government guidelines, the college enforces a zero-tolerance policy against ragging. Any student found guilty of ragging will face severe disciplinary action as prescribed by law.

Ragging is a serious criminal offense that has damaged numerous innocent lives and careers. It is defined as any behavior that undermines the dignity of a student, whether through words, actions, or written communication. Ragging is strictly prohibited on campus, and anyone found involved in or supporting ragging will be subject to strict penalties.

Anti-Ragging Policy

As per the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions (2009), ragging includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Verbal or Written Abuse: Any act that teases, insults, or treats a fresher or any student with rudeness.

Rowdy or Undisciplined Behavior: Actions causing or likely to cause annoyance, hardship, or harm—physical or psychological—to any student.

Forced Acts: Compelling a student to perform actions that cause shame, torment, or embarrassment, thereby affecting their well-being.

Disruption of Academic Activities: Any act by a senior student that hinders or disturbs the regular academic life of a fresher or any student.

Exploitation: Using a fresher or any student to complete academic tasks assigned to others.

Powers and Functions of the Anti-Ragging Cell

Compliance & Vigilance: Ensures implementation of Supreme Court and UGC anti-ragging directives within the campus. Faculty and staff monitor hostels, classrooms, and common areas to prevent any ragging incidents.

Awareness: Conducts awareness drives, posters, and announcements to educate students on anti-ragging policies.

Student Orientation: Organizes orientation programs to inform freshers about their rights and safety measures.

Complaint Handling: Receives and investigates complaints confidentially, with action recommended to the committee.

Support Services: Offers counseling and support to affected students; contact details are displayed across campus.

Preventive Measures: Implements surprise inspections, CCTV surveillance, and mentoring systems as deterrents. Teachers and wardens form part of the Cell and actively engage in anti-ragging supervision.
